To better understand the effects of CBD and Copaiba Essential Oil on the body, it helps to know a bit about a system that you might not have heard much about.

THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM is a fairly recently studied system of the body, having only been discovered in the 1990s by Dr. L.A. Matsuda. Despite it being a newer and, therefore, lesser-studied system, it is critical for many other systems and functions of your body.

THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM involves a network of receptors known as CB1 and CB2 receptors. It’s very possible (and, in fact, hypothesized) that there are many more than two types of receptor in this system

CB1 receptors affect the brain and central nervous system. THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM is critical because it is responsible for the regulation of functions such as body temperature, hunger, thirst, energy, stress, sleep, discomfort, digestion, hormones, memory, mood, and reproduction.

CB2 receptors affect the Endocrine System (which deals with glands) and the all-important Immune System. They are found mainly in the Immune System. Interaction with these receptors help protect the body in ways such as reducing the risk of tissue damage and regulating the inflammatory response. CB2 receptors also have relaxing, soothing properties on the body.

ENDOCANNABINOIDS occur naturally in your body. Some act directly on CB1 receptors, some on CB2 receptors, and others on both types of receptor.

A prime example of an ENDOCANNABINOID is anandamide, which is the chemical involved when you experience a “runner’s high.” Anandamide is produced by the brain after extensive exercise and causes you to feel euphoric (due to its interaction with CB1 receptors) as well as soothes muscle and joint discomfort (due to its CB2 receptor interaction).
